Congratulations to Fernanda P., third grade student in Mrs. Lopez’ class. Fernanda’s essay was chosen as one of 4 winning essays by FOCAL (friends of children and libraries) for their annual essay contest.
Mrs. Forbes, our librarian, offered upper grade classes the opportunity to enter this contest. The book, “The Tree Lady” was read by Mrs. Forbes during library visits. Students were asked to write an essay telling what part of the story or character “stuck with them”, what they learned about the main character, and how they would feel if they met the author.
Fernanda and her mother, Heidy Reyes, had the privilege of attending the annual FOCAL luncheon this past Saturday. Fernanda was able to meet the author, receive an autographed book of “The Tree Lady” and enjoyed lunch with the author and the other award winners.
Vintage is very proud of Fernanda and also the following students who wrote wonderful essays as well.
