Vintage fifth graders in Rm. 1 read a book about homelessness in Mrs. Moorman's class. According to Mrs. Moorman, the students became very moved by the book and began to do some research about homelessness in our area. Over the course of three months, the kids created a collaborative presentation through research and reading and persuasive techniques and convinced the principal to allow us to hold a lemonade stand during Open House to raise money that would directly benefit the homeless students of LAUSD. They raised $759 and all of it was donated to the LAUSD Homeless Education Outreach. It was a service project that cane about organically in our class because my students were very passionate about this cause. Vintage is very proud of the compassion shown by these students.
