Vintage's 5th grade classrooms gathered outside in the lunch area to do math. Not just any old paper and pencil math lesson. This math lesson involved a national favorite "Oreo" cookies. We use the Oreo cookie to help teaching tallying, counting, averaging, and more. Details about this worldwide project can be found at: Projects by Jen.
Assisted by parent volunteers, students each took turns seeing how many oreos they could stack up high. The number was entered on a poster tracking each students two attempts. A worksheet gathering prdata was completed by students. Later student removed the sweet filling and made sculptures it.
