Fifth grade Vintage student reporters, Julietta, Kirk, and Danielle, interviewed Mr. Dan Hubbard, the organizer of Love to Learn BMX Bike Shows and had this to report. Kirk started out the interview by asking Mr. Hubbard about what kind of pegs he used. Pegs are sticks that on each side of the bikes that the rider can stand on. He uses plastic, light-weight, pegs by Primo because they grind real smooth. Danielle asked about how many bikes does he own. Mr. Hubbard replied, “About 30!" Fifteen bikes that are usable and fifteen that he is working on. He collects very old bikes and fixes them up and hangs them in his garage. Julietta asked him, “What is your favorite bike?” She learned it is a Haro Master with an 80’s look but is actually new. Danielle asked, “How long has he known Macho Man" (the star BMX bike rider) and he replied, "For 8 years.” For more of their interview, watch their student created video below.
Students reaped their reward for doing a great job selling “World’s Finest Candy” to raise money for various programs at Vintage Magnet School. Wednesday, May 17th, 2017 students were treated to Mr. Dan Hubbard’s “Love to Learn” starring Ricky Moseley (Macho Man). In addition to thrilling students with their BMX bike riding tricks, Mr. Hubbard (whose wife is a teacher), stressed the importance of studying hard – especially reading, math, science, and engineering; respecting teachers and classmates and being support of them; and being cool like Macho Man by wearing protective gear such as helmets when riding bikes.
