Frequently Asked  "Help" Questions for Chromebooks & Hotspots Plus  Other Useful Resources

8/1/2020

Dear Vintage Families,  Below are some of the questions that are brought to me during the school day regarding Chromebooks or Hotspots. If you have an issue with the items, please refer below.
Sincerely, Mrs. Stone, Vintage IT On-Site Support.

Hotspots not working

Hotspots are either Verizon MiFi Jetpacks or T-Mobile Hotspots. Both come with a 1-2-3 quick-start guide to powering up the device and connecting it to a network.
·        T-mobile hotspots are currently set to provide up to 50 GB of data each month; Verizon currently does not have any monthly data limits.
·        Users may experience lower internet speeds at certain times of day when there is higher congestion on networks.
·        When devices fail to connect or speeds are unusually slow, users can try powering down devices and reconnecting after a few minutes, which usually resolves the issue.
·        For technical support, users should call 800-922-0204 for Verizon devices or 844-361-1310 for T-mobile devices.
·        When requesting support, it is helpful for users to inform the support center that the device was provided by LAUSD.
·        If support personnel request an IMEI or SIM number for the device, the number can be located under the battery.

When do fifth graders turn in the Chromebooks and/or Hotspots they borrowed?  Please turn in by August 14, 2020.

When do students in grades Pre-k through 4th turn in their borrowed Chromebooks and Hotspots?

1. Students will hold on to their devices until notified by the school. Please continue to use these items for educational use only keeping them secure when not in use.  Thank you.

Chromebook Not Powering On:
  1. Make sure all pieces of the power cord are plugged tightly together.
  2. Plug into working wall outlet.
  3. If still not powering on, press the Power Key and Refresh Arrow Key (arrow bent in a circle located in the upper row) together then release to  reboot.
How to add a user's name:
  1. Go to the left-side, bottom of the screen
  2. Click Add Person
  3. Type in the student's school Mymail email address
  4. Type in the corresponding password
The screen image is really large:
  1. Press together the Ctrl key and 0 (the zero key)
I need to enlarge or shrink the window:
  1. Press the Ctrl key and tap the + (plus key) or - (minus key)
The window has twisted sideways:
  1. Press together the Ctrl key + Shift key + Refresh Arrow Key (arrow bent in a circle located in the upper row)
Strange things are happening such as change in screen contrast, voice over started, magnification, etc.:
  1. Go to the right-side, bottom of the screen
  2. Click in the area where the Wifi icon is.
  3. Select Accessibility
  4. In the Accessibility drop down menu, look for any items check marked and click them to uncheck them.
I can't remember my user email address:
  1. The teacher will be able to help you with the student email. Reminder: Their LAUSD user name is the student's email address which is the first letter of their first name, some or all of their last name and four numbers @mymail.lausd.net (Example: mmouse0001@mymail.lausd.net).  If the teacher is unavailable to ask, you can follow the directions that follow for changing email password.  The email address will be displayed once you type in the student's  ID, birth date, and PIN number.

My password isn't working OR
I can't remember my user email password: (Note: Passwords are changed twice a year so the current password may no longer work.  Check the student's email to see if password expiring notices were sent.) See below on how to check the student's email.

To change their email you need their student ID, birth date, and PIN number.  If you don't know it, contact your student's teacher.
  1. Go to: mylogin.lausd.net/
  2. Select Student and follow the prompts.

To check their LAUSD Student Single Sign-On email:
  1. Go to:  LAUSD Student Email: MyMail.lausd.net
  2. Type in their LAUSD user email
  3. Type in their corresponding password
