To kick off the evening's celebration of "STEAM: How Art and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Connect," Vintage kindergarten students performed a dance. They were followed by keynote speaker, Tomasz Stec, Lead Avionics Engineer from Edwards Air force Base spoke. He first dazzled students with the STEM aspect of his job as an engineer. He mentioned he wasn't good at math as a young student but kept working at it. He talked about how not all designs are successful. He even shared some videos of the "Oh No" moments of when products were tested and failed. Mr. Stec also introduced how art leads to creativity, which leads to opening minds to different ideas and ways to approach problems. Mr. Stec also enjoys being an artist. He pointed out how much he uses math when creating art projects. At ended his talk he equally dazzling students with photos his artistic talents of creating pancakes that look like dragons, Santa and his Reindeer, karate kickers, the Eiffel Tower, and other fun designs.

At the conclusion of the evening, Vintage family and friends were invited back to the auditorium to bring their cellphones to be part of performance art. The goal was to spell out NASA using the lighted display of the cellphone. This was an exercise in taking a creative idea, not tried before, and seeing if it would work.
