Vintage Magnet   Participates in Hour of Code

12/6/2016

Vintage is pleased to particitpate in the Hour of Code world wide event (officially Dec. 5-11).  Students spent their computer lab time learning about computer coding. They will then continue the fun in their classroom and at home. Using the Code.org website, students can learn basic computer programming and logic, problem solving and creativity.  Code.org has developed a free, elementary school curriculum that allows even the youngest students to explore the limitless world of computing. The courses blend online, self-guided and self-paced tutorials with “unplugged”activities that require no computer at all (we chose to skip the unplugged activities). You can use computers and tablets.

Student's progress can be saved if students either 1) use the code, log in name, and password given to them by their teacher; or 2) Create a CODE.org account using an email such as their LAUSD school email.  In addition to the CODE.org website there are many other sites that help students learn to code.  Listed under VintageMagnet.net LINKS in the menu bar, you will find some of those sites on the CODING page.  Invite your child to show you what they have learned and perhaps, join them in pair programming (working together).  We think you will find this a fun activity that gives your brain a workout.

Vintage Magnet VEX IQ Robotics

12/6/2016

Some students from last year's Lego Robotics were invited to participate representing Vintage Magnet at Mulholland Middle School on Friday, December 2, 2016. The event was a great start for Vintage's two teams as they earned second and fourth place out of 19 teams.

What is different about VEX IQ Robotics is that the teams work in conjunction with the opponent team to complete tasks together to gain points for both teams.

If you want to come and cheer for the Vintage teams and learn more about the VEX IQ Robotics, the next tournament we will hold at Mulholland Middle School on January 20th at 5:30 pm.
