10/27/2014

Friday, October 31st at 1:15 students will gather in the upper grade playground to get into the magical mood of imagination and display their costume in a parade.  Vintage families are welcome to join them for this fun photo op.  Additionally, students may bring a decorated pumpkin to display on the grass area in front of the school library Friday morning, by 8 AM - remember to pick the pumpkin up at the end of the day. Please be sure to read the guidelines for important information for both of these events --> Click here for the flyer detailing these events.

1. Students are to BRING their costumes to school in a BAG. They are NOT to come to school dressed in
costume. They will have time to put costumes on after lunch in their classroom.
2. Students must be able to put on their costumes without assistance.
3. Students must be able to wear costumes over the school uniform. In other words, they must be able to put on
costumes over their clothes and change in the classroom.
4. Keep in mind that safety is our first concern. Costumes should not interfere with vision or mobility and should
not include any items that could be hazardous to others (no makeup). NO WEAPONS OF ANY KIND ARE
ALLOWED ON CAMPUS. THIS INCLUDES TOY GUNS, KNIVES OR SWORDS.
5. No costumes/masks are allowed that hide the identity of the student (i.e., gorilla suit, “Scream” character, etc.)
6. All costumes should be age appropriate. Costumes which are graphically violent will not be allowed.

Thank You to School Beautification Participants

10/20/2014

Saturday, October 18th, 2014, was school beautification day.  A day for students, their families and friends, and staff to pitch in and tackle projects around campus for which there seems to never be enough time or manpower. Coming together as a community can make a difference. It is with a HUGE "Thank You" to those people, young and old, that came out and worked very hard to complete these tasks.  We know that you had many places to be that day, but we are so honored that you chose Vintage's School Beautification Day.  Our school is a better place for it.

Meet This Year's Student Council

10/16/2014

Vintage introduced the election process to students when students ran for student council offices.  A wonderful group of student candidates made persuasive election posters.   3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students cast their votes electing a very capable group of student leaders.

One of the first tasks Student Council tackled was to organize a poster making campaign celebrating Constitution Week.  Be sure to watch for more news about student council activities.

Student Council showed leadership by arranging for students to wear Orange on Wednesday, October 22, to show unity against bullying.  Rm. 2 students and Mr. Bullis  made a great show of support by wearing orange shirts.

The evening blasted off with a presentation from Mr. Tim Buzza of Virgin Galactic who discussed "The Birth of Commercial Space" and what the future may hold commercial space travel.  Vintage students and families then spread out over the campus partaking of refreshments  from Fratelli's Pizza, Jamba Juice, Kona Shaved Ice, and freshly popped kettle corn.  Refueled, they visited an array of fun and informative venues as listed below.

Stanley Cup Visits Vintage

10/7/2014

Students, staff and other Vintage community members were treated Monday, October 6, 2014 to a visit from the L.A. Kings staff, including Jim Fox and Daryl Evans, with the highlight being the Stanley Cup (the championship trophy awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoff winner ) brought to Vintage Magnet School.  Vintage was selected for their students' participation in Bailey's LA Kings Royal Readers program, a reading incentive program in partnership with Reading is Fundamental of Southern California.

Partnering during this visit to Vintage with the L.A. Kings, was Discovery Cube L.A. which will be opening November 13, 2014.  According to StreetInsider.com, Discover Cube L.A., “The Science of Hockey” will debut in early 2015, at the new Discovery Cube Los Angeles (DCLA) as one of the most technically advanced sports-themed exhibits in the world. The permanent destination attraction will combine hands-on hockey learning focused on the skills of the sport with unique participatory experiences that explain the scientific realities of the game.

To add to the fun of the day, Vintage students were coached by the  L.A. Kings Chariot staff in a street hockey clinic in the school playground.  For many, it was their first time to hold a hockey stick.

For more photos of the event click here.

Read more about their visit in the San Fernando Valley Post-Periodical.
