Magnet Applications  2016-2017 for the School Year 2017-2018  - What You Need to Know   ( Applicaciones para Escuelas Magnet 2016-2017)

9/29/2016

If you would like your child to attend Vintage Magnet or any other LAUSD Magnet School for the 2017-2018 school year, you must complete a Choices Application between October 4, 2016 and November 10, 2016 to be eligible.  Parents are encouraged to complete the Choices Application online at eChoices.lausd.net.  If you do not have internet, you may pick up a paper application at your local LAUSD school.

Current Vintage Kindergartners are not automatically accepted into the First Grade at Vintage Magnet.  All current Vintage Kindergartners must complete a Choices application for Vintage, and must be offered a spot in our First Grade through the district’s lottery system.

Current Vintage 5th Grade students who would like to attend a Magnet Middle School next year must complete a Choices Application.

Current Magnet Students in grades 1-4, who plan to continue at Vintage Magnet next year should not complete a Choices Application.  Remember, that if you are currently enrolled in a Magnet School and you apply to another Magnet School, your child will automatically lose their spot at the current Magnet School if they are offered a spot at the other Magnet School.  Also, please understand that if your child is currently enrolled in a Magnet School, they cannot accumulate Magnet Waiting List points.

***Caution:  Every year a few students lose their spots at Vintage because their parents applied to another Magnet trying to accumulate Magnet Waiting List points.  So only complete a Choices brochure if you actually want your child to attend the other Magnet School next year.

A parent meeting for more information on school choices will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 @ 6 PM in the auditorium.

Please go to eChoices.lausd.net for more information.

____Spanish__________

Save Your Plastic Bottle Caps

9/5/2016

We need your help saving plastic bottle caps for our school, especially the colorful ones.  Vintage has fun plans for a school art project starting when we return to school in August.  We will use these plastic bottle caps to create a mural that aligns with the NASA/Space travel theme of our school.  We will need lots and lots of blue and dark blue caps, as well as white and other colors.  Start saving them throughout summer (rinsing them will help) and bring them in when school resumes. We will need about 550 caps per square yard.  Plus.... this helps the environment by re-purposing them into a decorative mural.

When students return next school year, we will have a collection station where they can be deposited.  We will update you about the mural design and provide more details at that time.

Learn more about Bottle Cap Murals at MeriCherry.com (see photo below of one example):
Also, click here to read Pacific TV's blog about a local school, San Jose Elementary, that created a "Green Team" and made a lovely school mural.

Motivate younger children with this cute collection song called "Bottle Caps by Laurie Berkner."
