On May 16, over 75 students, parents, and other community members gathered to showcase their engineering, programing, and team work skills that they have learned throughout the Lego Robotics league. The friendly competition consisted of 2 rounds in which students had to program their robots to deliver various objects as well as pick up and move other objects within a time limit. A good time was had by all. If you have any questions or would like to inquire about next seasons league (2015-2016) contact Mr. Bullis.
Fifth grade student members of the Student Team Of Reporters and Meteorologists (STORM group) researched, wrote, and produced a video about weather around the world. They used the Wuppets (weather puppets) and a green screen in the making of their video. To celebrate the completion of the video they enjoyed a Movie Premiere with popcorn and juice at their Weather Wednesday meeting.
The STORM group is comprised of fifth grade students who volunteer to perform a service for the school. They keep the school's community informed about the weather conditions. They also track weather of the week, month, and school year. They learn how to use the green screen for making videos. On Weather Wednesdays they focus on learning more about different weather conditions and watching their weekly weather video that they video. Our goal for next year is to partner up with another elementary school and compare and contrast their weather with ours and how that affects their lives. For further information, contact Mrs. Stone in the Computer Lab - dstone02@lausd.net. Now get your popcorn ready, click play on the video below, and sit back and enjoy! Monday, May 18th, 2015 Vintage's fifth grade students spent a long day at Hess Kramer Science Camp where the mountains meet the Malibu coast. Portraying two characters from California's history, Mr. Greene, enthralled the students with facts about California mission history and the gold rush. During his humorous and informative presentation, students were able to interact with Mr. Greene impressing him with knowledgeable answers to his questions. They were able to see historical artifacts such as an original mission adobe brick, mission made soap and candle, a pick, and gold pan. A highlight of the assembly was being able to pan for gold. Thanks to Vintage's wonderful families and friends, teachers and staff were made to feel like rock stars. Through three sessions of lunches, teachers and staff were directed through a golden fringe entrance by an event coordinator and security guard who alerted the press and fans who was walking down the red carpet. The paparazzi was there with camera capturing the moment. Security was high that day as these stars filled up the Vintage Auditorium venue.
Once inside Vintage's Stars were met with 'Swag Bags' of goodies. A vast array of delectable treats were laid out for them to select from. Food was provided by "Vintage's Awesome Families Catering Company." Not a star left feeling a bit hungry. It was noted that emotions ran high during the event as a few tears were seen with some staff overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of their fans (a.k.a. as amazing Vintage families, friends, and students). Teachers and staff want everyone involved to know how much that luncheon and all the goodies during the week have made them feel so appreciated. Thank you, thank you, thank you!.
