ALL ABOUT BOOKS – “MONSTER GRUB!”
VINTAGE MAGNET’S SCHOLASTIC MONSTER BOOK FAIR Your students will be coming home asking for change to "Feed the Monster". Please support our "All For Books" campaign by sending in loose change with your child. This campaign will start Thursday, November 12th and will end the morning of December 8th. Each teacher will have a Monster container which can be filled with change. For every dollar collected, Scholastic will donate one book to an organization for children in need. The money amounts collected for each class will be credited to each teacher so that he/she can purchase books for their classroom library. Help support reading and your child's class and "FEED THE MONSTER"! Thank you to everyone that generously donated Halloween candy to DDS Smudde of Valencia's 2015 Operation Graditude: Candy Buyback event. Vintage came in 2nd place winning $250 for our school. Vintage brought in 232 pounds of candy. This candy will be put in care packages to send to our troops, as well as to an orphanage and special needs school in the Philippines. Fifth grade rooms 7 & 8, along with an support group of parents, performed a marathon of six experiments related to dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide). This event culminated their unit on physical science. With parent help, proper safety cautions were observed. Students learned about the different types of matter while applying the scientific process, making hypothesis and writing observations. Task 1 was to put drops of cold water on an on ice cube. Task 2 was to drop a piece of dry ice into hot water. Task 3 was to predict what would happen if a metal nail was pressed against the dry ice. Task 4 was to see if they could fill a ballon using dry ice. Task 5 was to put dry ice into a mixture of dish soap and water. The last task, Task 5, was to see if they could make a giant bubble using the dry ice. Click here to view photos
