Make your 5th Grader's yearbook special for them by sending in a baby picture to be included in the yearbook. You have two ways to submit your photos. 1) Send in a baby picture that clearly shows your child's face (no bigger than 4x6) and label the back with your child's name, teacher's name, and room number. Do not send xerox copies. Try to send in photos with your child pictured by themselves (alone) if possible. OR 2) submit the photo via email attachment (JPEG only) to: Vintagemagnetgrade5@gmail.com. Same size requirements as above. Include a return email address, name of student, teacher's name & room number. Put BABY PICTURE in the subject line.
Send one picture only. Your child's picture will be returned to you at the end of the school year. Please send no later than by Friday, February 13th in order included in the yearbook. If you have any questions, please contact Laura Arguelles at vintagemagnetgrade5@gmail.com Thank you and we look forward to seeing all those adorable 5th grade babies! Students can practice for the upcoming standardized testing at home just like they practice at school. Practicing the Smarter Balanced Assessment is important to help students feel comfortable and ready for the actual test starting in March 2014.
Gone are the paper booklets and pencils tests. Testing will now be done on computers or tablets. Each classroom, grades 3 through 5, will visit Vintage's computer lab to practice how to navigate the new testing system. The more practice they get, the more comfortable they will be. Parents are encouraged to sit down with their student(s) and explore the Smarter Balanced Assessment practice student tests, too. Fourth graders interested in gardening and school beautification meet with Mrs. Stone on Mondays at recess in our school garden on the west side of campus. Last fall they cleaned out weeds and old plants from their garden plots and refreshed the soil. They then planted plants and seeds that would do well in a cool weather garden such as: lettuce, radishes, carrots, snap peas, cheddar cauliflower, chard, tomato, cilantro, and also strawberries. Overall, their efforts met with success. Produce was picked, washed, and presented in a beautiful, healthy salad. Students couldn't get enough of this tasty treat. We also discussed interesting facts about lettuce. Check out our Vintage Gardens blog to see what the 4th Grade Garden Club has been up to this year.
